Pushpagandhi Home was established in 2008 with the aim of providing a safe and comfortable alternative shelter for destitute elderly surviving spouses who have been abandoned by their families. Over the years, the home has gained recognition for its services to the elderly and has been recognized by both the state and central government.
In 2014, the home was recognized by the State Government as licensed under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. This recognition further strengthened the home’s commitment to providing the best care for the elderly. In 2019, the home was also recognized by the Central Government under AVYAY Scheme, earlier known as IPOP Scheme, which provided additional support to the home in terms of resources and funding.
In January 2020, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment, consisting of about 20 Members of Parliament and 5 officers of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, visited the Pushpagandhi Home at Kurinji Nagar, Lawspet. Shri. Madhu Bhutani, Deputy Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat, appreciated the home for its services to the old aged people and recognized the efforts made by the home in providing a comfortable and safe environment for the elderly.
In 2021, the home was shifted to a new location at Plot No. 224, VIP Nagar, Korkadu Village, Nettappakkam Commune, Puducherry-605110. The new location provides a larger and more spacious environment for the elderly to live in. Currently, more than 20 senior people are staying in the home, and they are provided with a range of services and facilities to ensure their comfort and well-being
